 WASHINGTON—United Nations Information Center Director Will Davis told a GPF-USA Capitol Hill forum, “Confronting Family Poverty,” that the United Nations may have chosen one day, May 15, as the International Day of Families, but that “the majority of work by the UN has a lot to do with supporting families.”Mr. Davis said that the UN provided a range of services to support the health and integrity of the family, including vaccination programs, shelter, education, and crisis intervention. “Among the eight UN Millennium Goals,” he said, “two in particular, child health and maternal health, are lagging behind and present the greatest potential benefit relative to the cost of investment.”

An annual Head-of-State sponsored Global Peace Convention is to be established locally to measure the progress on peace and development initiatives and advance new partnerships.This was part of the eight Resolutions by Global Peace Convention delegates from more than 40 nations, dubbed the ‘Nairobi Declaration’, made on November 19, 2010. As the Global Peace Convention 2010 drew to a close on November 19, the delegates from more than 40 nations considered a declaration of commitments and action steps as the Convention outcomes.  Called the Nairobi Declaration, it was presented to the delegates by Dr. Manu Chandaria, Convention Co-Chairman, and thereafter affirmed by acclamation.

0 GPFF-ALS provides opportunity for all: A young mother attends a session with her child while Mr. Al Rhea, an Instructional Manager closely monitors her learning progress.One hundred fifty two learners, many from disadvantaged backgrounds  attended the GPFF Philippines-Alternative Learning System (GPFF-ALS) training at four community learning sites in Metro Manila in preparation for the National  ALS Accreditation and Equivalency Test on October 24, 2011.The Accreditation and Equivalency Test provides certification of learning achievement on two levels, Elementary and Secondary, which is comparable to testing levels at regular school systems. The standardized "paper-and-pencil"-based tests use multiple-choice and composition writing.
