The Universal Peace Federation in Chile conducted a Global Peace Festival on Saturday, January 24, 2009, in the city of Lampa, about 15 miles north of the capital of Santiago. The event was organized with only three weeks preparation and was small but successful, with enthusiastic participation from the city mayor, Mrs. Carolina Ortuzar, and several other local authorities. In addition, several prominent Chilean UPF Ambassadors for Peace were present in the event. The event was sponsored and organized by the joint efforts of UPF Chile and the Municipality of Lampa.

The vision of the Universal Peace Federation were explained the audience. In addition, several ensembles shared a delightful variety of music, dance, and poetry, all related to the ideals of universal peace and “One Family Under God.” Overall, the spirit of the festival was very bright.

Prior to main event, UPF Chile and the Municipality of Lampa sponsored a service project in which many youth from 16 to 25 years of age worked together to clean a local park. These youth represented four different groups—Catholics, Evangelicals, volunteers with a Chilean government drug prevention program, and Family Federation members. The clean-up project lasted three hours, and everyone had an enriching experience. Later the volunteers had lunch together and in the evening participated enthusiastically in the festival event.
