Volunteers Work for Peace and Development in Honduras E-mail

Tegucigalpa, Honduras - On January 21, 2009, a workshop about coordinating volunter effort for peace and development was held at the headquarters of the Global Peace Festival in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.



This participatory workshop was held to prepare the annual operating plan of the nation's network of volunteer organizations linked to the UN. Representatives of 30 organizations were present on this occasion. These organizations promote volunteerism and mobilize volunteers to carry out activities for peace and development, since achieving the Millennium Development Goals will require the ingenuity, solidarity, and creativity of thousands of people doing voluntary service.

The primary initiative for this year in Honduras is the Global Peace Festival.

The Universal Peace Federation will be in charge of the development workshop on peace to be held from July 8-10, themes that will be developed include:
 
• Education for Peace
• Human Rights
• Media for Peace
• Family
• Youth Participation
• Volunteering for Peace

The Honduran network of organizations is currently developing a proposal on the theme "Volunteer Honduras" that will be submitted to Congress for discussion and approval.
